About Golden Pencil Education Centre
At Golden Pencil Education Centre, we believe effective teaching must be grounded in the science of learning. As educators with expertise in neuroscience, neuroeducation, and evidence-based instruction, we understand that learning is not random, it is a biological process shaped by how the brain pays attention, processes information, stores memory, and develops understanding over time.
That is why our teaching approach is intentionally designed around cognitive science and brain-based learning principles. We use strategies supported by research in neuroscience and educational psychology to help students learn more effectively, build stronger memory pathways, and develop genuine confidence in their abilities.
Our programs combine curriculum-aligned instruction with evidence-based teaching methods, including explicit instruction, retrieval practice, spaced repetition, structured literacy, cognitive load management, metacognition, and problem-solving frameworks inspired by Singapore Mathematics methodology. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all tutoring. Every student learns differently, and understanding how the brain learns allows us to adapt our teaching to meet each learner's needs.

My children have been attending weekly maths tutoring sessions with Ms Ghazal and Sam for the past 2.5 years. Their teaching and support have made a genuinely positive impact—my kids are now much more confident in maths than they used to be. I'm incredibly grateful to have found such patient and supportive teachers. My daughter used to dislike maths, but she recently told me it's now her favourite subject in Year 7! My daughter has been learning from Ms Ghazal since 2019! She was always a keen learner and enjoyed maths but I was looking for a mentor who would nurture her love of learning and strengthen her foundation for the subject and extend her mathematical abilities. Now in Grade 8, my daughter applies critical thinking and problem solving skills around many maths concepts, enjoys challenging herself in maths competitions, continues to love the subject and the community of like minded peers at Golden Pencil! Ms Ghazal is such a special person and so much more than a math tutor to us.

It's safe to say that we were there with Sam and Ghazal at the very beginning when they started this journey in 2020 right up till today. Our daughter is in her first year of university now while our son is still under Sam's tutelage. That, I believe, sums up our trust and confidence in them to provide the all important guidance in laying a strong academic foundation for our kids leading up to VCE.

My daughter worked with Sam to prepare for the accelerated program exam, and in just three short terms the progress was outstanding. Sam identified her weaknesses early and tailored the learning to suit her individual needs. The support and encouragement provided gave her the confidence to excel. The teaching approach is highly personalised rather than generic, which made a huge difference. I would highly recommend Sam to any student needing targeted and effective support.

5 stars just aren't enough! Since Santi started at Golden Pencil, his confidence in maths has soared. He's much happier at school and no longer feels overwhelmed when introduced to new topics. It is amazing to see his attitude towards learning change so positively. The environment is a perfect balance; the setup allows for great concentration, but the team also ensures the students feel incredibly comfortable and supported. A huge thank you to Ghazal and Sam for everything!
